"Single Ladies" Gets an Indie Cover

Lately it's throw a rock, hit a clever contemporary cover video on YouTube. Frankly, the more the better with this fun and free pop culture trend. Especially if it doesn't draw the ire of the original artist and record labels. Miley Cyrus and her Disney cohorts happily endorsed the gay parody of her hit single "Party in the USA," and legions of gay fans embraced the tween queen all the more for it.

It's already been a good week for Beyoncé's bumpin’ "Single Ladies" after it was hilariously and heavily featured in Glee's "Preggers" episode. And it's not like the hit-making machine Beyoncé needs a boost, to be sure. But check out this cute and mellow indie-rock take on her anthem by the band Pomplamoose.

Mika: "I've never limited who I sleep with ... "

91007126 Though he avoided definitive comments in the past, telling the London Evening Standard in 2007, "I never talk about anything to do with my sexuality, I don't think I need to,” pop singer Mika has clarified his sexual orientation. The Advocate reports that Mika told a Netherlands gay publication, "I've never ever labeled myself. But having said that, I've never limited my life. I've never limited who I sleep with. ... Call me whatever you want. Call me bisexual, if you need a term for me."

The creative music maker also shared his interesting views on being a role model for closeted LGBT youths. Mika said, "There are ways of being a role model without having to always having to establish yourself with a label. Let's say if you're a 16-year-old guy, and you're not sure about your sexuality, you should be as free as you want."

New John Mayer Song “Who Says”

Well-known for saying too much no matter how hard he tries to stay tight-lipped, John Mayer is pop music's modern-day Romeo.

Romancing stars and reflecting his personal experiences in his tunes and Twitter posts, Mayer may irk some, but he has that rare authentic offering of talent to fall back on: In between breaking celebrities’ hearts and bitching about his tabloid coverage, dude produces some really nice melodies. He's not so much a bad boy as he is just a frank guy surrounded by overly nice and PR-minded celebs. Mayer's sharing a track of his next album, Battle Studies, with the world before the November 17 release date. Check out "Who Says" below:

Tell us: Do you like John Mayer's music or are you sick of his shtick?

Pre-Fame Lady Gaga Footage

What would a Lady Gaga performance be stripped of all the spectacle? Just Stefani Germanotta singing a little ditty at the keyboard. Take away the bleached-blond hair, glittery costumes, and insanely famous persona, and all that's left is a brunet dressed in black.

Here's a 2006 performance of "Hollywood" by the girl who would be Gaga:

Crowded House: Duran Duran's Intimate Club Show

 Duran-044
There are certain established acts like Madonna, Kylie and the Scissor Sisters that play best in expansive arenas and stadiums, and others like Marianne Faithfull, Lady Gaga and Rufus Wainwright that work better in small, intimate clubs.

Duran Duran falls into the first category.

While most hardcore Duranies would have cut off their right rubber arm bracelets to see the Fab Five in their infancy at Birmingham England’s Rum Runner club in 1980 or at L.A.’s Roxy club on their first U.S. outing the following year,  Duran Duran has evolved into something much bigger and broader than a bar band over the last 29 years.

Profile: The Dead Betties

The_dead_betties It's not easy to forget an all-boy band with the name The Dead Betties, especially once you've seen them live.

They receive rave reviews from the indie press and fans alike, The Dead Betties seem to be taking the spirit of punk rock back from the corporate teenage party music that's put out by bland bands like Good Charlotte.
