Chrissie Hynde on Same-Sex Marriage
In an upcoming interview with PlanetOut's Jenny Stewart, rock legend Chrissie Hynde comes out in support of same-sex marriage. When asked if she supported same-sex marraige, Hynde replied:
"Yes. I think that just by knowing the people that I know and my personal friends who are in gay marriages and civil partnerships, obviously that just makes a lot of sense to me just in terms of legal rights. But also in terms of people who are committed to each other and want to acknowledge that, I mean, come on – why not? I mean, good luck to anyone who’s in any kind of relationship that can stay together and have some meaning and longevity and substance."
Come back to PlanetOut, Gay.com and AmpedOUT Monday for the full interview.

Ok, as a long time fan, I have to say that I find this surprising about Chrissie.
She was such a tough girl -- she was the kind of chick who I always thought would be the first to call me a faggot in high school. Or the first to call a tough woman a dyke.
Kudos to Chrissie -- I for one am shocked -- and happy -- to hear about her support.
Cheers!

Rock musicians, especially female ones, do not fit the profile of right wing homophobes.
Maybe some of the war mongering, red meat, Republikkkan country singers (and closet cases)...but not the aging or otherwise rock n rollers.

Chrissie is a self described peacenik. She fled the US in 1972, was a fixture on the punk scene in London. Hung with Sex Pistols, Poly Styrene, Damned, Clash. She is a staunch animal activist and a vegetarian. Why are you shocked she supports gay marriage? She is good friends with Sandra Berhardt. She is and always has been gay friendly.

Rock Musicians do not fit the profile of right-wing homophobes? Excuse me, where have you been? Ever heard of Ted Nugent? And he don't sing country either. And how about one of the guys from the Ramones?
