Kanye West Declares Beyonce "Greater Than" Tina Turner
Never one to keep his opinions to himself, Kanye West recently told reporters in New Zealand that Beyonce is a greater artist than Tina Turner.
His exact words: "…[Beyonce] is just as great, if not greater, than artists we had in the past. She's probably greater than Tina Turner."
This declaration has sparked a worldwide debate, and I'm not exaggerating.
So is Beyonce better than Tina?
I love Beyonce. She is one talented lady. She sings, she acts, she endorses products.
But is she better than Tina? Talk to me about that in 42 years. If Beyonce, who is 27, is still doing her thing onstage at the age of 69 like Tina is now, then maybe I'll agree that she is better than Tina.
Until then, no way.
Tina, the woman who brought us hits ranging from her signature song "Proud Mary" to "What's Love Got To Do With It," just rocked Madison Square Garden at an age when most people are retired. Tina has been releasing hits and touring since the 1970s, and she has enjoyed longevity in a business where most artists flame out after a few years.
Tina is a legend and one of the greatest musical artists of all time, and don't even get me started about those amazing legs.
Beyonce is indeed one of the hottest artists in music today, and while I'm not sold on her latest single "If I Were A Boy" (did you hear the awful rendition of the song she warbled through when she was on The Oprah Winfrey Show?), I'm down with "Crazy In Love," "Irreplaceable" and "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)."
And the girl can shake her groove thang.
But I suspect that even Beyonce would agree that she's got a long way to go before she is even in the same league as Tina.
So what do you think? Is Beyonce better than Tina? Or is Kanye out of his mind?

No offense, but Kanye West was dropped on his head too many times as child. If his butt didn't have a bell attached to it he wouldn't be able to find it.

Is this man for real? Of course he is and what an idiot he really is. I wonder just how long his so called talent will last.

I think Beyonce is good but she aint as good as Tina Turner. Tina is the most hardest working artist of all time and Nvr in a million years will Beyonce be better. I'm sure Beyonce agrees with me. KANYE YOU ARE F+++++G OUT OF YOUR MIND FOR SAYING THAT. I love you TINA your amazing, and I know Beyonce thinks the same. Otherwise she wouldn't be a huge fan of yours.

Kanye, Kanye, Kanye...you seem hell-bent on declaring you and your cohorts to be the second coming of liberation salvation (he declared himself to be "the most important voice of this generation" the other day...yeah, OK).
Whatever with all that, but PLEASE! Beyonce better than Tina? Have you lost your mind, man?

No offense to Beyonce but she can't carry Mrs.Turners pantyhose at this point in time.Maybe in 80yrs she might but not at this time.

Kanye is clearly out of his mind. When Beyonce has had as many hits and has sold as many recordings as Tina for the same amount of time, then, and only then, Kanye might be able to make such a "declaration".

Kanye was kinda spot on. Tina still can't be forgiven for her 80's output (fashion-wise and music-wise).

I'm sorry Matt, but I am a child of the 80's, and although Proud Mary is one of the best and and most timeless songs ever, Tina put out some of her best music in the 80's. And I fell in love with her in that fabulous wig and flashy clothing. I saw her in Oct at the Staples center and she still f&$%ing tears the house down. Beyonce is talented and I enjoy her music thouroughly but she doesn't have Tina's soul. I could see her achieving Diana Ross status but not Tina Turner. Not in a thousand lifetimes. BTW, I got in a shouting match once with someone who said Celine Dion was better than Tina. Now that assertion was even more ludicrous.

I'm not a huge fan of Beyonce's music. I only like a few of her songs. Having said that, if you go to one of her concerts and you see her dance and sing (live!) flawlessly for 2 hours + like the energizer bunny, you'd start to believe that she can be the next Tina. Of course, she has to prove longevity. But she's already proven that she can write some of her songs. I don't think Tina has ever done that. On the other hand Tina is more of a rocker and Beyonce is more Pop R&B. So comparisons aren't exactly fair. Also the opportunities a woman is given these days are a lot greater than they were in the '60s, 70s and even '80s and '90s. And when you consider the personal heartaches that Tina overcame, then you really start to appreciate her.

Beyonce better than Tina? One cannot create a legend by declaring it so. Tina Turner's musical and life achievements cannot be eclipsed by anyone. Tina defines "Unique", a perfect synthesis of all she was ever meant to be. As DJ, I played "Fool In Love" in the early 60's until it wore out. I'm still in love with Tina. Kanye who?
