New Annie Lennox Greatest Hits CD/DVD
The U.S. release of the new album "The Annie Lennox Collection" is scheduled for Feb. 17th, and it includes two new songs. One of the tracks is called Shining Light, and you can hear it now.
The new single (a cover song from the Irish band Ash) is pretty much her signature sound, and it almost seems like something released in the '90s, but I'm not knocking the song. It's a really good guitar-driven mid tempo track with rich, uplifting vocals and some great harmonies. Check it out for yourself:
Her official website has been updated with some nice graphics and content. The Flash-enhanced pages take a bit too long to load, but it's worth checking out if you are a die hard Annie fan.
One of the more interesting sections of the "Collection" site is the "Track by Track" blog, where she continues to post info about the making of each classic song.
Here is the track listing of the 14 chosen songs. The compilation will contain 2 discs -- the full 14-track CD plus a DVD of music videos.
1. Little Bird
2. Walking On Broken Glass
3. Why
4. No More I Love Yous
5. Precious
6. A Whiter Shade Of Pale
7. A Thousand Beautiful Things
8. Sing
9. Pavement Cracks
10. Love Song For A Vampire
11. Cold
12. Dark Road
13. Pattern Of My Life
14. Shining Light

I'm really surprised how bad this song sounds.

Although the new track is OK, what the reviewer neglects to mention is that "Shining Light" is a cover of a tune by the British band Ash, who do the song MUCH better than Annie (I'm a fan, so that's not really a dig at Ms. Lennox, just an opinion). If you like harder alternative-type pop and have a chance to check out their album "Free All Angels" (the disc that contains this track), it's well worth it.

I wouldn't bother ordering the US version of this album. Amazon UK has 2 discs of songs (including "Into The West" as well as the DVD of the videos. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collection-DVD-Annie-Lennox/dp/B001DZ9GRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233342201&sr=1-1

The new single takes a few listens to get used to .. I will definitely buy this collection .. 'Cold' is one of the all time greatest Annie singles next to 'Pavement cracks' .. I worship this woman and the ground she walks on ..

She is the best. Always has been and always will be. Many have tried to copy her but no one has ever beaten her.
The legend continues.....

To myself, I whisper over and over again, 'soon Annie we'll be together, soon Annie we'll be together, soon Annie we'll...' Too dramatic guys?

oh I forgot to add I am sitting in the corner of the room, rocking back and forth, flicking the light switch on and off. Her cover of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" is droning on in the background....
