Watch Now: Stewart Lewis' New Video
Talented out musician Stewart Lewis has just released his first video from his new CD, "In Formation."
If you haven't had a chance to catch Stewart live, the second leg of his "Rock the Folk Out" tour (which also features fellow queer artists Tom Goss and Jake Walden) kicks off in Boulder, Colorado on April 22nd.
Check out his new video, "Not a Love Song" below, and let us know what you think on the comments section. Visit his Web site for more information on Stewart and the tour.
"What do you think of queer artist Stewart Lewis' newest video?"
I think we need to quit calling ourselves QUEERS!. We spent years growing up getting chastised with that word and others, why use it to describe ourselves. Thats idiotic.

bad,Wainright makes him look like a joke

I'm all for supporting our community, but a bad song is just a bad song...

I don't think he's anything special. The video DOES NOT make me want to run right out and buy the CD.

Why does G.com,and other venues keep pushing the fact the guy is queer???WHO CARES!he's an artist(supposedly)end of story....As long as we keep making such remarks as "gay writer","gay artist",we'll never be anything else to the world at large but just gay!!Stop being soo freaking 70's for Christ's sake!

Aww, so what if people use the word Queer to describe the gay community as a whole. The tech crew here at Gay.com thinks it's okay to use it and I as a queer person myself I guess I don't really have anything against it. It's just that some people might use it out of context and that would lead to misunderstands. But this is supposedly Queer positive space so get Queered with it, hehe.
As for the artist and the song, I don't personally like this type of music, but then again it's not all about him dancing half naked in a club with glitter and men gyrating against him. Different concept for the video, more intouch with nature kind of theme. I think people who like this kind of music will probably favour it. Oh, and he's one of the "few" out artists who are taking a huge step into the media spotlight these days and receiving positive (sic) acclaim for it. I think we out to give a give him a round of hands for that. Cheers people.

i saw him open for shawn colvin. love the song, and the video has a cool, gritty feel. go stewart!

the song is just great. it does not matter who he sleeps with and any exposure is great for an artist; regardless of the vehicle. keep at it stu --- xxx

Stewart Lewis is a beautiful and talented man. If you are not familiar with his music you are missing out on something special. NOT A LOVE SONG is good but I prefer him without all of the pop production. SEE HIM LIVE and stripped down (yummy) on his ROCK THE FOLK OUT TOUR and you will be an instant fan like me!

Great! Love the song! And the accompanying video gives it a really cool visual.

Stewart Lewis is an extremely talented artist, both as a singer/songwriter and a twice published author.
I doubt any of the bitches who slam his work on this web site after a quick viewing of his video understand what a huge accomplishment it is to be signed to a record label to begin with, then to be queer, because guess what - it's hard to sell a gay artist to the masses- yes even Wainwright - Not to mention being a writer of books and getting them published. That's monumental in itself.
How about a little more support from the gay community, huh???
I would urge anyone who might want to give this true artist more than 30 seconds of their judgemental lives to check out his web site.
www.stewartlewis.com or his MySpace page and hear some of his other songs.
He's amazing!

LOVE this! how nice to hear a positive song and not a lets-slit-our-wrist gloom and doom number. i'm getting his cd for sure.

It's catchy... I like it... sort of reminds me a bit of the goo goo dolls or the fray...

This song wasn't all that; not by a long shot. He's an alright singer, but nothing great. I don't see much of a musical career in his future. The video was as boring as the song. Say what you want, but I've been on the air in radio for 32 years as a hit maker; not a hit breaker. I take chances and play the music to help make hits. I don't sit back waiting for them to climb the charts before I hop on the bandwagon. Sorry, Stewart, but I wouldn't pay to see you in concert or purchase your music. I wouldn't do either even if they were for free.

Great video and a great song. Check out the scope of his work at his website www.stewartlewis.com
Glad to see this on the front page!!!!

I think this is a great pop song...While I know he probably won't make a million sales off of it, Stewart is a true artist. He writes his own songs, and when he performs live, he sings with fire and honesty and his voice is actually amazing. AND he plays piano and guitar. I've seen him live so I get it.
I think most of the people that panned him on this site probably adore Beyonce, who, let's face it, is no artist. She has no authentic emotion whatsoever in her vocals or in a live performance. She is merely a robot, a product, and stupid consumers eat her up. Most gay men listen to whatever the men in their clique listen to anyway. I'm exhausted of most of "us" being a stereotype. Aren't you?
I say keep doing what you're doing Stewart. You make an honest artistic contribution to this world without selling out. Good work.

I liked it.... It has an early Jason Mraz feel to it... Super hooky chorus too. I can't stop singing it. Keep up the good work.
Posted by: Bobby Johnson | February 25, 2009 at 11:30 AM
boring.
Posted by: bob | February 25, 2009 at 11:59 AM
it's an okay song, nothing great. i agree with a few others though ...... if we want acceptance in general, then quit trying to separate ourselves by marketing an artist as gay or queer. come on, does anyone who listens to music really care? there are many artists who are successful and just happen to be gay, they don't all promote their sexuality, and they shouldn't. one comment says we should get behind and support gay artists. why? should i support an artist just because he's white and male, like me? nope, i will buy music that is good and what i wish to listen to no matter who or what the person singing it sleeps with.
Posted by: Ray | February 25, 2009 at 12:12 PM
I think Stewart is a wonderful artist and you should check out his song COME CLOSER on youtube.....It's really cool!
Posted by: Matt | February 25, 2009 at 12:15 PM
I think that the song is great! Do i love it? No. But I also don't like alot of songs that I know are great music. Just because it doesn't strike a personal fancy with ME doesn't mean that I can't appreciate true talent when I hear it. Keep it up, Stewart...Keep being yourself and singing your heart and people will listen.

I love it...I hope to see more of his videos!

"I think we need to quit calling ourselves QUEERS!. We spent years growing up getting chastised with that word and others, why use it to describe ourselves. Thats idiotic."
Sorry to derail this thread (Stewart is great. Do you know how hard it is to get ahead in any mainstream field as an openly gay man?). But it's called "owning the words." Queer has been refashioned into a term that covers anyone who is sexually deviant, that means you, me, straight guys who love trans women, and much, much more. It's an inclusive term so we don't have to identify by an acronym that's getting too long to even remember. I personally consider queer a better term than "gay." Do you know how the term gay is used in this country? Yeah, it's used to ridicule everything from slightly homosocial behavior to bland ice cream. Using the term "gay" for me is almost insulting to myself. I'd rather that term be used more positively before I identify by it.
Posted by: Dan | February 25, 2009 at 01:01 PM
So ya ok big deal, not an overly capturing video. Kind of boring really. Just a artist that can sing walking around. WOW...exciting. As Simon Cowell would say..forgetable!
I too am getting tired of "Queer" being used on anyone featured on here. Can't you just say "gay"?
Posted by: Tony | February 25, 2009 at 01:54 PM
I have to agree with Daniel up there when he said...
"I'm all for supporting our community, but a bad song is just a bad song".
Gee, and I thought Paris Hilton was bad!? lol
Posted by: No Name | February 25, 2009 at 02:02 PM
The song is so so, nothing special or original but its no bad, but his actitude is a little bit queer, like child, inmature or femenine... sometimes he looks like a normal guy but sometimes he is sooo gay that maybe one in his family could kill him... I know he is gay but why he must to be so obvious?
Posted by: JC Boy | February 25, 2009 at 02:16 PM
This song majorly sucks as does the video. It totally tanks and I've seen better home movies. I got bored fast. This person is anything but talented. Wake-up people just because he's gay doesn't mean he's a good artist. If he wants me to give him the gay vote he needs to do something a little more challenging. His work is totally mundane in terms of sexual politics. He couldn't even put in a gay kiss.
Posted by: Dave | February 25, 2009 at 02:51 PM
blah... blah... blah. very weak for such a talented guy!
Posted by: cole | February 25, 2009 at 04:33 PM
Its good but it wont last it don't have enough of an impression no real impact. She's going to be another washed up queen before you know it.
Posted by: Cris | February 25, 2009 at 04:34 PM
My first impression was that it sucks ... "This is not a good song" every pun intended
Posted by: Cris | February 25, 2009 at 04:37 PM
Music is great. It's entertaining and memorable. Maybe some of you don't like it because it is actually commercial and lots of folks like it. JC Boy needs a little help; why would you talk about "kill him" when he's an artist putting out some feel good music. JC Boy sounds a bit extreme and maybe a little off his rocker jumping to the thought of killing him. Whoa, a visit to the shrink might be in order.
Posted by: Swenman | February 25, 2009 at 04:40 PM
Why is everybody making such a big deal about the whole queer thing... we should be talking about the video and the song... which i happen to fancy. Too many haters out there. Cheers!
Posted by: Tina Levin | February 25, 2009 at 05:19 PM
I don't know what you guys are talking about. His music is so chill. I've seen him perform in NY, and he puts on a great show. We need to support out artists, and especially incredibly talented out artists like Stewart!
Posted by: kyler | February 25, 2009 at 05:44 PM
I loved this song. I read the comments, and I may be retarded here, but I never saw where the author said he was "queer"?
I saw that they said he was "out." I saw that he referred to the other touring artists as queer, but still...as a gay man, I saw a hot singer on gay.com, and I know gay.com doesn't only feature gay artists. So I for one was pleased when he was referred to as "out."
I agree that gay musicians dont need to be labeled as gay on perhaps mainstream sites, but I for one want to know if a guy is gay when I'm on a gay site.
In fact, normally I am *hoping* that when I am listening to or watching a musician on gay.com that the artist I'm being shown to is gay. Stewart Lewis's sexuality doesn't have to be blared out if he ever gets on Vh1, but when I'm on a gay site and seeing him, I for one want to know his sexuality.
all in all, I like this song. he's talented. cute. heath ledger like.

Gay schmay. Who cares other than those needing the definition of some subculture. And Queer? Silly, degrading and NOT very cool to the esteem of a teen trying to figure out who he/she is because they have feelings for the same sex -- so they get to be QUEER? Not good. Drop it for something with class and a sense of pride for their humanity -- like boy or man or woman or human. Maybe so many teens will stop offing themselves if we help them feel great, not QUEER! Anyway, Stewart does not play "gay" music, he's a guy with a huge catalog of different feels and dynamic stage presence. And a very creative author, even doing radio features on NY's WCBS!! We wait for you guys in Boulder!!

Another pop song.
Doesn't do it for me.
Posted by: sirald66 | February 26, 2009 at 12:20 AM
Calling this guy "queer" is almost an insult to the word. There's nothing "queer" about him or this song at all. It's a totally run-of-the-mill, overly-earnest alt-pop song that anyone could have made. There's nothing radical, strange, or interesting about it. It's as far from "queer" as you can get.
Posted by: Johnny M | February 26, 2009 at 03:48 AM
queer or not queer, this guy has amazing talent. i saw him open for ani difranco years ago and it's wonderful to see how he's progressed as an artist. definately going to buy his new cd.
Posted by: jake | February 26, 2009 at 05:09 AM
Stewart's song caught my attention, and I was hooked immediately. I love music with lyrics that make you go "hmmm," and his music certainly fits in that category. I am glad to read the comments that say he is even better in person than he is on the album, because that means he is naturally talented. As far as the controversy over the "queer" label, don't adopt the same closed-minded attitude that gave birth to that term and deny yourself the gift that this guy is to us all. Give his music a listen and support all good music, regardless of who makes it. Rock on, Stewart!

The song and video are beyond horrible. There was only one part that I though there was any hope for this thing and it fell through. You can make a cheap looking video great, but they failed miserably. I wish I could support this artist, but I just can't bring myself to do it since I think he just Sucks as an artist. Hopefully he will come out with something more entertaining.

SIMON COWELL would say that Stewart is DIVINE and that the COME CLOSER video is UNFORGETABLE!!!
Posted by: Honey Buns | February 26, 2009 at 01:51 PM
Not that good. I listen to utada to beyonce to jason maraz to Estelle etc. well lets just say i listen to some of everything. This just wasn't doing it for me. It seems like hes trying to be like the fray or jason maraz but just not hitting it. I wish him luck but he needs some better production, bigger video budget, and better lyrics. Well pretty much the backing of a record label.

More discretion doen't make you a closet case.
My sexuality is my Private Business & I don't parade it in front of everyone.
It is a gift my partner(s) are exclusively meant to love and see.
Congrats to these Artists & I wish them all their best successes.
But the song is just below OK in my POV and will save my money for a mortgage I can't afford. LOL
AND YOU KNOW WHAT
We are all QUEER, FAIRIES, FEMS, FUDGE PAKCERS, QUEENS, FAGS, ETC.
Get used to it or we all should by know.
Grow up to take it like only a man can.
Sticks & Stones can't break a boneless boner, BONERS LOL ;)
BOING!!!

I think he's great..the video is great ..some guys on here like to be negative because they take out their frustrations in life by hating everything.

I think it's fantastic.....it's upbeat, positive...and simple... I can't wait to download it. Just one of those songs that just makes ya feel good....
What else could you want!
Posted by: Kev | February 26, 2009 at 11:44 PM
Nice little pop tune. Cute hook "....'till we learn to sing." Give the guy a break and embrace the music... He's young enough to need to keep plugging away at the music. I say, best of luck to him, but find a new video director.
Posted by: JMichalel | February 27, 2009 at 05:16 AM
I thought the song was cool. Catchy hook, nice harmonies, arrangement and production. I just want to know who he pissed off to receive such brutal commentary. Sure it may not be everyones cup of tea, but WOW....some of the remarks were really over the top and unnecessary. Then again, I guess it is pretty typical of our community to go above and beyond when it comes to "bitchyness" and "supposed constructive criticism" but never the same effort when it comes to love and support.
